COMMENT ON THE EFFORT. PART III. Cross diagram as given here is a moment of human life. At this moment the vertical line is intersected by the horizontal line of time.
Every moment of human life can be represented in this way. Point intersection of vertical and horizontal line is now. But this only becomes now in its full meaning if man is conscious. When a man is found there for him now. If you're asleep at the time, toiling from past to future, yet identified, there is now in his life. Not even a moment. On the contrary, everything flows, everything changes, everything becomes different, and so far than expected then, that so eagerly anticipated, when it is already in the past.
It's just this feeling of existence and meaning of the address represented by the vertical line that gives men the sense of now. This feeling is sometimes called the feeling of eternity. You begin to feel the real "I" because the real "I" is beyond us, not ahead of us in time. Eternity and time are immeasurable. This means that no amount of time can make eternity, just as no amount of can length width. Belong to different dimensions. But Eternity and Time in Man are at the point called now.
In this vertical line there is no past or future. What takes the place of time, past, present and future? What takes the place of Time is the state or the level or quality. The vertical line represents the position not at the time, like, say, 1942, or age, such as having 20 or 50 years, but the position on the scale of the states of being, at the level of understanding and quality of knowledge. Everything in the universe, visible and invisible, known and unknown, is at the same point of this vertical line. Everything is inevitably at some point on this vertical scale, because everything finds its own level it under, so to speak, their density, such as objects floating in the sea. Any evolution in its true sense, has to pass from one point to a higher point on this scale. The scale means ladder. In all diagrams we are going to study, This idea of \u200b\u200bthe universe is like a ladder or scale, and it is so necessary to reach a preliminary understanding of the significance of the vertical direction, which is not before us in the future of Time, in the next year or the next century, it is either in space or in time, but in another dimension, namely above us. In a limited way, we all know the existence of this vertical line, because all states know best and worst states in ourselves. This is particularly so when a man begins to work on himself and knows what it means departing from the bad states and what it means to be asleep.
However, there are two kinds of influences that can reach us at any given time. A class is the horizontal line, the line representing the time. These are the influences of the past that come to each moment in our life and the influences that come from the future, ie the future represented in the time line along which we move. But there are also other influences. When a man reminds himself rising in vertical line and savor for a moment a new state. This occurs when a man no longer thinks in remembering, but actually it does.
